Feels Like Holiday All Year Round with Island Shop Collection

Posted: 20 May 2013 07:40 PM PDT

Jakarta is a city located on a beautiful island blessed by year-round tropical climates. Now, the idea of tropical living is evocative of swaying palm trees, rolling waves, and icy drinks, but this is definitely not the image that pops into your head when you think about Jakarta. The only things that come to mind are dust, concrete, and traffic, a very far cry from the tropical living lifestyle that you see advertised in brochures. I think it’s high time that Jakarta take back the tropics!

Thank goodness for Island Shop. This Singaporean label continues to display its mastery at  the tropical boho look through their Summer Glow show at Pondok Indah Mall’s Fashiontastic event. This in-house brand from Tangs, the Lion City’s most prominent department store, was brought into Indonesia about a year ago by Alleira and can be found in Jakarta and Bali. The comfy-looking collection does not stray far from their usual offerings of colourful linens and embellished tops, with plenty of room for accessorising to go around; I liked the earth-toned skirt, but I also really enjoyed the prints and colours from the men’s collection! Even if these looks won’t go down well in this concrete jungle, all  I’ll have to do is buy a plane ticket to a strip of sand where they can flourish in their natural habitat!

Get ready for CLEO Shop-A-Thon!

Posted: 20 May 2013 12:02 AM PDT

I’m pretty sure that for most of us, our weekends are sacred days where we just want to be left to do whatever we want and not be judged for any of it. Some weekends, all I want to do is sleep on the couch, eat my own body weight in pizza, and watch Boardwalk Empire until I turn into Steve Buscemi. Thankfully this isn’t an activity I engage in every weekend: my ideal weekend starts by sweating it out at the gym and spending time afterwards with friends, eating at fun new places, and doing a little bit of retail therapy to work off the carbs from lunch.

So the holy trinity of my ideal weekend basically involves exercise, food, and shopping – and since shopping is practically an Olympic sport, I’m especially excited to do some practice at the CLEO Shop-a-Thon, an annual shopping and entertainment hub! This three day-long event is hosted by the beloved glossy, CLEO, and will take place between May 24 – 26 at Food Society, Kota Kasablanka.

So what should you expect from this event? For one, it will be a shopping haven with more than forty fashion and accessories labels participating! You’ll run into some of your favourite brands including Mango, Cotton Ink, Milcah, Teabag, and Fashionese Daily favourite fbudi. Even online shopping giants Berrybenka and Scallope will expand their presence on the world wide web into something tangible through booths of their own! So if you aren’t familiar with Indonesian labels just yet, this event will be a great primer for your new love affair with it. Here are some fun looks I found from the homegrown brands I mentioned above!

Everyday solids from Milcah

Fun prints from Teabag Butik

High drama from fbudi

There will even be playful competition going on the whole time: collect stamps from every booth on the grounds for your chance at winning the Stamp Collector title and prize. And if you want to take it up a notch, just know that the more you shop, the higher your chances at winning the Best Shopper award. CLEO will also be giving away FREE Starbucks vouchers to the first two hundred people who sign up at the official page! *signs up*

Other activities include fashion shows, talk shows, beauty classes, band performances, and even more chances of walking away with a gift with plenty of entertainment and games. So if you already had plans this weekend, scrap them! This is one fashion and beauty bazaar you and don’t miss out on. See you there!

Let’s Play with Summer Colors!

Posted: 19 May 2013 11:02 PM PDT

I realize in our country, the weather has been unpredictable recently.  The month of May used to be hot and summer-y all day long. Anyway, I still feel the enthusiasm of summer.  If you’re working in this industry, and seeing makeup brands releasing their summer collection, you just can’t resist. :)  Anyway, as most of us probably know, summer is identical with bright fun colors.  And I’m not complaining here.  Even though I’m not wearing those bright colors on a daily basis, that doesn’t mean that I’m anti-summer.  Sometimes I just want to play with my makeup, you know what I mean, right?  In fact, recently I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE wearing bright bold colors on my lips.  At the Female Daily Headquarter, I think Dhany and I are the ones who usually play with “crazy” lip colors, and as far as I know, neither of us is tired with those bright colors just yet.

Now, after getting used to bright, bold lip colors, I want to try other “areas” on my face.  Eyes are the first ones that came across my mind.  I see models wearing fun colors on their eyes, and that makes me want to try them as well.  I already imagined that I want to put blue, green, or purple on my waterline to make my eyes pop and more open.  That would be fun.

So, I gathered information of makeup brands that have launched their summer collection, and Make Up For Ever stood out the most.  Affi wrote an article about Make Up For Ever Aqua Collection here, and I couldn’t agree more.  Waterproof, creamy, long-wearing, stunning color, great pigmentation.  What more could I ask for?

This June, Make Up For Ever will release Aqua Summer Collection, adding new colors for Aqua Eyes, Aqua Lip, Aqua Rouge and Aqua Cream to complete the collection. They are for a limited time only, so I am excited for the rest of the gang to arrive and available in Indonesia.  Now, let me give you a short “tour”.

Aqua Eyes (IDR 250,000)

I am one of the many fans of Aqua Eyes.  The texture of it is soft, creamy, and it glides easily on eyelids.  For the Aqua Summer Collection, Make Up For Ever creates a new color: a pearlescent teal that will bring the brightness into your eyes.  Not only that, there are other pencils for the 2013 collection: intense violet that really pops next to the cool teal, and the matte brown from spring’s La Boheme look has been added to the existing line-up of 25 Aqua Eyes shades. The additional colors will be available for a limited time only, June to July, while stock lasts.  So, you better be ready to snatch one if you’re interested.

Aqua Cream (IDR  280,000)

The thing about Aqua Cream is that I can easily wear it alone and I can apply it as an eyeshadow base.  Oh, one more thing, I usually use it to color my lower lashline as well.  I can work with it in different ways, and I think that’s a PLUS!  And from my experience, Aqua Cream doesn’t crease on my eyelids (FYI,  I have delicate eyelids), and it stays on very well throughout the day.  I believe the new colors will do the same job.  There will be three exclusive colors for Aqua Cream: a pearlescent teal, pastel green, and deep iridescent mauve purple color.  I can imagine playing with them.  The lightest color can act as a higlighter, and the rest will stay on the eyelids or lower lashline beautifully!  Like the Aqua Eyes, Aqua Creams will also be available for a limited time only. Out of these three, which color do you love the most?

Aqua Rouge (IDR 310,000)

Aqua Rouge is definitely a must-have item if you’re a lipstick junkie.  It comes with two ends for two types of finish: matte and glossy.  The one side has an intense color and will appear matte on the lips.  But if we prefer to have the glossy pump lips, we can use the vinyl-effect topcoat on the other side. This year, Aqua Rouge will launch five new colors: pale orange, a poppy coral, fuchsia, pomegranate, and baby pink.  Look at these colors!  Pretty and fun!  I’m not brave enough to wear the orange one, but the rest of them are calling my attention instantly.  I have to put them on my wish list.

Aqua Lip (IDR 250,000)

Lip pencil is important to create perfectly shaped lips and to help the lip color stays on longer.  The quality that we have to look for in a lip pencil is the color, formula, and durability.  I think I’m not the only who have dry lips.  At first it’s scary to use lip pencil because I thought it’s gonna make my lips worse.  But the good lip pencil has a creamy and soft texture, feels comfortable on the lips, and easy to blend and apply.  When a lip pencil blends nicely with the lipstick, without looking like two different lip products at once are showcasing themselves on our lips, that’s the good one.  Aqua Lip is one of my favorites, for sure.  And this year, joining the 18 colors already available in the Aqua Lip range, we will see two more new shades: a deep pink pomegranate and frosty pale pink.

Well, I think my wish list just keeps getting longer after writing this post. :p
